Tucked between headlands a few minutes north of Haad Yao, Haad Salad is the northwest coast at its calmest — a sheltered bay of soft sand and shallow, glass-clear water that rarely feels crowded, even in season.
The draw here is the reef: coral heads begin roughly a hundred metres from shore, close enough to reach from the beach, and the bay is regularly named among the island's finest snorkelling spots. The shallow, protected water makes it a natural choice for families with younger children, particularly around high tide from December to March. The village behind the beach stays small and low-key — a handful of well-liked kitchens, among them Thai and Western cafés, rather than a restaurant strip — so evenings here are about the sunset and not much else. Bring your own snorkel gear; that is part of the charm.
Snorkellers, families, and anyone whose ideal day is a book, a swim, and an early dinner. Guests who want nightlife will be happier further south.
About 20 minutes from Thong Sala by scooter or taxi. Chaloklum village and its seafood pier are an easy ride east; Haad Yao is minutes to the south.
